Synopsis

Marlene Dietrich plays Countess Ledoux, who has just arrived in mid-18th century New Orleans with the intention of marrying a wealthy man. She meets and becomes engaged to a gentleman banker, but soon begins a series of deceptions when a poor sea captain comes into her life and steals her heart.
