Life has never been better for Maggie (Karen Dwyer), an ex-law student. She has recently moved into a fantastic loft and found the woman of her dreams, a beautiful artist named Kim (Christina Cox) who has been living out of a van. The two lovebirds quickly put their nest in order; until Maggie's uptight mother and adolescent brother are forced to move in with them. All the freedom and space Maggie has gained is suddenly compromised, and she finds herself keeping her blossoming affair a secret to the frustration of her new girlfriend. But it's the clandestine romance that inadvertently introduces her family to a host of new experiences, many of which are better than chocolate. Karin Dwyer and Christina Cox are terrific as the young lovers, and Wendy Crewson is splendid as Maggie's mother, who might finally be ready to break out and start having some fun in her life.
''A splendid cast… 'Chocolate' [is] an unabashed audience-pleaser.''
